Of Things I miss

Of things I miss

I miss

I miss the smell of a book whiffing through its pages. Like a lover invading your space; every breath leaves you desiring more. And with the great ones, the ones you become addicted to; it’s like before they leave you, they give you a little glance making sure you understand they conquered you.

Hmm…

I miss how we’d drag ourselves to the library. To the spots where we colluded with sleep to form dreams we ought have chased. Remember the corner we liked — we’d stare at girls and fantasize about what boys fantasize about. We’d gaze for hours wishing the ones we crushed on would make us their partners, to study of course. For we were good boys! Pity wishes aren’t granted to cowards.

Did I ever tell you of the day time stopped? Of this girl we crossed paths. Like a goddess meant to be dined and served, she could have you by her knees and all you could do is heed her commands. Ha! I’m sure I mentioned this. But to this day, you laugh at me. Uko na ufala sana btw!!!

Gone are the days that turned into nights.

The day I had my first hurt break and cried to the sounds of ‘The Scripts’.

Did I ever tell you that’s the first day I had my first drink? Maybe that’s why my heart sinks?

But when the tears dry, the scars heal and time continues.

And that’s a serious thing.

I miss the laughters. I miss the tears. Of days where happiness wasn’t a stranger nor sadness some alien object you lock deep down inside you instead of turning to friends meant to chaff away the darkness. It’s true what they say, with every year you loose more than you gain. So what you gain, hold onto it tight cause it’s a miracle of your pain.

I miss me. I miss my innocence. I miss having deep conversations with random strangers about random issues like humanity. I miss such days we let our values speak. Of letting our minds wander into a realm only known to them. I miss the ideas that sparked; the quick lighting of our bulbs injecting the hope that we could change the world. Destiny on our hands. Fun days.
